My experiences with IBM NetVista N2200 and Linux-Kernel 2.6

To run an IBM NetVista N2200 with an appropriate linux kernel (esp. using a 2.6 version) is not a trivial task.

  • The thin client has to be setup to boot via network using DHCP.
  • We need a DHCP and TFTP server to provide the kernel.
  • The N2200 cannot load an initial Ram disk, so it has to be built into the kernel.
  • We need an installation of the system running in the thin client.
